A Practical Simulative Simultaneous Interpreting Report On 2019WIM:Under The Guidance Of Simplification Principle

This article takes the author’s interpreting practice as an example,utilizes Gill’s energy allocation model as the theoretical basis,and adopts Li Changshuan’s CEA framework to analyze how to adopt simplification principle and its omission and generalization strategy to guide the interpretation to keep up with the spoken speed of the speaker.Besides,the author analyzes the problems and tries to find out how to solve them during this practice to improve the quality of the interpretation.The simplification principle is one of the most important principles in Grice’s conversational implicature,and its meaning is that the conversational language is concise and organized.Nowadays,this principle has been continuously practiced and enriched and widely applied in interpretation.The interpreter uses omission and generalization strategy to simplify the speech to save energy.At present,due to the rapid development of science and technology in China,the World Innovators Meet is held annually.The 2019 WIM took the science and innovation 4.0 to build a new globalized future as topic,summarized the results of world technology and industrial innovation in 2019,and predict the latest innovation trends in 2020.Out of interest,the author selected an episode from the conference as the material for this simulative interpreting practice.Combining the practice of simultaneous interpreting,the author found that in the process of Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting,the overall length of the English interpretation is longer than the length of the Chinese speech mostly.It is difficult to keep up with the pace of the speaker,and the interpreter has to speak quickly as much as possible.However,this would cause the rhythm and the spoken speed of the interpreting to be disrupted,and cause a psychological burden to the interpreter,which affects the entire interpreting process in some degree or even causes a failure of the interpreting.In order to solve this problem,the author analyzed the problem in this interpreting practice and tried to use simplification principle and its omission and generalization strategy to cope with it,and reduce the unnecessary energy to allocate the energy appropriately.Finally,the author summarized the deficiencies in this practice,so as to accumulate experience for the future interpreting learning.
