On The Influence Of Omission In Consecutive Interpertation From The Perspective Of Effort Model

Consecutive interpreting is an intrinsically difficult exercise because interpreters usually have to fully understand the long and complicated source speech segments before reformulating a good speech output.Consequently,good short-term memory,note-taking ability and public speaking skills are required.To overcome the inevitable cognitive overloads during this process,interpreters often employ a variety of strategies.In practice,sometimes it is either unnecessary or impossible to interpret the whole speech word to word due to various reasons.As a result,translators consciously or unconsciously omit under such conditions.This thesis has taken the well-known Effort Model in consecutive interpreting to study the reason why omission occurs and the role omission plays in interpreting.An observational study has been carefully conducted to find out the necessity and influence of omission on interpreting output in some cases.By analyzing respective rendition of the experimental object,proposals and coping strategies based on the Effort Model had been made at the end of this thesis to deal with the cognitive overloads during consecutive interpreting.
