A Study Of Annotation In The English Translation Of XI JINPING:The Governance Of China Ⅲ From The Perspective Of Paratext Theory

The third volume of XI JINPING:The Governance of China is one of the representative CPC Central Committee literatures.This book contains 92 important works of President Xi Jinping in the recent three years,which is an important approach for readers at home and abroad to understand China’s national conditions and governance.In the field of translation studies,paratext could serve as an extension and supplement to the translated text.As an indispensable part of paratext translation,annotation provides the basic explanation of the main text.Therefore,the study on annotation provides a new perspective on the study of the translated works.This paper examines the similarities and differences of annotation in the Chinese version and the translated English version of Xi Jinping:The Governance of China Ⅲ by employing the paratext theory.By analyzing the specific examples,it is found that the annotations could be grouped into six types with corresponding translation strategies such as equivalence,addition,deletion,translator’s notes,intratextual gloss and replacement.This study investigates the employment of strategies when translating annotations in CPC Central Committee literatures and seeks to play a positive role in improving the effectiveness of translation activities and culture communication.
