| On February 21,1930,the Hollywood comedy Welcome Danger was shown in the two theaters of the Shanghai Concession.The plot of the film that humiliated the national dignity caused strong dissatisfaction among Chinese people.The famous filmmaker Hong Shen made a speech on stage in the theater and called on the audience to refuse to watch it.The public,public opinion and the government united in common against each other and finally developed into a bottom-up protest.The active actions of the national government finally made the incident properly handled.Since then,Hollywood dared not wanton defamation of China’s image,humiliating Chinese films gradually subsided.Since then,the international image of Chinese people on the screen has been improved,and C hina’s national image has also been constructed through the media,citizens and government actions at that time.In the new era,the repetition of the Welcome Danger incident nearly a hundred years ago helps to study the history,politics,legal system and diplomacy of the Republic of China on the one hand,and shape the society of the Republic of China in the 1930s.On the other hand,the Welcome Danger incident is a landmark incident of the awakening of national image consciousness in 1930.It is of profound enlightening significance for China to shape its national image.Domestic scholars have made a lot of research results on "national image",but there are few papers to analyze the Welcome Danger incident,which promoted the awakening of China’s early national image consciousness.This is also the innovation of this paper.The main body of this paper consists of four chapters.Chapter 1 summarizes the outbreak,treatment and results of the Welcome Danger incident,from the emotional level of dissatisfaction to the action level of struggle.Under the joint efforts of the public,the intellectual community and the authorities,the incident rose from a "film" to a "state",and finally won the protest.The second chapter analyzes the Chinese people and the impression of China in the shaming films represented by Welcome Danger,elaborates the influence of shaming films on the image of Chinese people and the country from the perspectives of intuition,entertainment and "culturalization",discusses the self-cognition of Chinese image and the impression of China in the West,and then discusses the conflict caused by the cognitive imbalance between China and the West.The third chapter explores the national image presented by the anti-humiliation film incident.The struggle between intellectuals and ordinary people shows the awakening national image;the rapid action,trans-foreign negotiation and the improvement of electric inspection show the positive government image;the nationalism and cultural identity show the conscious cultural image.The fourth chapter on the basis of previous analysis,thinking about how to shape the national image today,news media,film,art,public diplomacy can be based on their own advantages,to shape and spread,the promotion of greater contribution to the national image,finally return to the incident itself not afraid dead,despite its progressive significance is worth affirmation,however,it is also necessary to make rational reflection on its existing problems,such as over-sensitivity to the "humiliation of China" and the dilemma of intellectuals’ "cultural guidance",so as to play a warning role. |
