| English reading is the core and key part of junior middle school English learning.Reading can help students to understand the text and improve their comprehensive language ability. At the same time, the total score of English reading accounts for the largest proportion in the high school entrance examination. Therefore,it is very important for junior middle school students to master reading skills and have good reading ability. However, everyone is an independent individual, and junior middle school students in adolescence would undergo some changes in body and mind.Especially for rural junior middle school students, their English reading level is also different due to the differences in their growing environment, learning methods and learning motivation. In order to improve students’ reading ability and achievement effectively, teachers need to change teaching methods. There are many teaching methods to teach junior middle school English reading, but most teachers still use traditional teaching methods. Thus students’ grades will not be improved much and they will lose interest in English. Many teachers usually choose to treat students as a whole regardless of students’ differences. However, stratified teaching focuses on the individual differences of students and meets the different needs of students at different levels,so as to promote the development of students at each level on the original basis. Therefore, the application of stratified teaching in junior middle school English reading is necessary.Under the guidance of “ Zone of Proximal Development ” theory,“ Optimization of Teaching Process ” theory,“ Mastery Learning ” theory and “ Input Hypothesis ”,this study explored the influence of stratified teaching on English reading in rural junior middle school.Through the research methods of the questionnaire, test and interview, the following three questions were mainly studied :(1)Can the application of stratified teaching method improve the reading grade of students of different levels? Which level of students is most beneficial?(2)Can the application of stratified teaching method change students’ reading attitude and stimulate reading motivation in English reading learning?(3)What impacts do the stratified teaching have on students’ reading habits and reading strategies? This study was conducted in Dadeng Nine-year Education School for a period of four months. The author selected two classes of Grade Eight with 50 students in each class and the reading level of the two classes was essentially at the same level.Class 2 was the control class. This class still used traditional English reading teaching.Class 1 was the experimental class. This class adopted stratified English reading teaching, which divided students into three levels:basic level, average level and high level and set different teaching objectives, teaching activities, homework and teaching evaluation for different levels of students.Through the study found that stratified teaching was more effective than the traditional teaching in English reading teaching. In addition, students’ scores at different levels have been improved, especially those at the basic level. At the same time, the stratified teaching changed students’ English reading attitude and stimulated students’ English reading motivation. And it was helpful to develop students’ reading habits and strategies. In a word, the application of stratified teaching played a positive role in rural junior middle school English reading teaching. However, due to personal ability, experimental period and other factors, this study still has some limitations,so it needs to be further studied and improved. |
