For middle school students,English reading is one of the main ways of English learning,and reading comprehension also takes up a large percentage in English tests.Therefore,in basic education,junior high school English teachers attach great importance to English reading.However,in the current class situation,the English reading level of students in the same class is quite different.Students with high reading ability and students with temporarily weak ability have different requirements.Therefore,how to conduct stratified reading teaching according to students’ reading ability,vocabulary and English reading interest has become a problem to be solved and explored by English teachers of English basic education.In view of the above situation,the author tried to use the internal stratified reading teaching in the class.Based on the results of English reading,the author divides the students in the class into three levels:B,C and D,which correspond to the enhanced level,the improved level,and the higher level.(Level A is the assistance level,and individual assistance will be provided to students who do not meet the standards at each level,and no classes are set).On the basis of the author’s full understanding of students’ learning foundation,learning habits and learning interests,she designs different reading teaching goals and teaching activities,as well as the stratification of reading assignments after class,so as to tap students’ potentials,stimulate their learning interest and improve their academic performance.That is to teach students in accordance with their aptitude.The study adopts qualitative and quantitative methods,attempting to solve the following two questions: 1)Compared with another balanced class without stratification,has the reading score of the stratified class improved? 2)Does the stratified reading teaching promote students’ interest in English reading?Experiments have proved that:1)Stratified reading is beneficial to improve the effectiveness of reading;2)Stratified reading is helps to improve students’ interest in English learning.The study shows that stratified reading makes teachers better understand the learning situation and also can be effectively used junior high school English reading teaching.
