| More than ten years ago,Confucius Institutes blazing a trail for the Chinese language and Chinese culture to go to the world.Through the unremitting efforts,Confucius Institutes,as the main body of Chinese and foreign cultural exchanges and international educational cooperation,have initially been set up around the world with the various cooperative education modes.The quality of running institutes has been improved and the operation mechanism has been prefect day by day.The development of the Confucius Institute has entered a new period.At the same time,some problems about the institutes’ adjustment to local conditions and their sustainable development are also revealed.There is considerable number of Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms with the uneven regional distribution.Due to the low degree of adjustment to local conditions,Confucius Institutes still cannot meet the actual needs of local Chinese teaching in terms of the qualified teachers and teaching materials.Furthermore,most Confucius Institutes without diversified modes of operation are hard to be integrated into the local environment.Then the low public recognition leads to the limited development.Therefore,it is of practical significance for the Confucius Institutes to explore approaches to realize their sustainable development in the new stage.The study,by virtue of the survey method,understands the educational environment of Scotland and the positioning of Confucius Institutes in Scotland and designs the questionnaire and interview outline on the basis of reading and analysis about the relevant literature.The respondents are the Chinese teachers and volunteers of Confucius Institute for Scotland’s schools.43 valid questionnaires are collected in the form of electronic questionnaires.2 local Chinese teachers and 2 Chinese volunteers are interviewed.Through the investigation and analysis,the present situation of the Confucius Institute and teaching of the Confucius classroom center are understood,and the merits and demerits of the Confucius Institute are sorted out.Through the analysis about the questionnaire results and the interview content,the author finds that: 1.The Confucius classroom center set up under the Confucius Institute makes the primary and secondary schools become the focus of Chineselanguage teaching;2.The Confucius Institute attaches great importance to the management and training methods of teachers with the positive effects;3.The Confucius Institute implements the evaluation system in every aspect and innovates the two-way communication way to improve its own brand influence;4.The Confucius Institute lacks the syllabus and teaching materials applicable to the Scotland’s reality.The evaluation system is imperfect,and the training content is not updated in time.In line with the above findings,the suggestions about reforming the Confucius Institute for Scotland’s schools are put forward,and several suggestions are proposed from the perspective of the sustainable development of the Confucius Institute: 1.The development direction of the Confucius Institute is adjusted;2.The teacher management system is refined;3.The brand construction of the Confucius Institute is stepped up. |
