A Practice Report On Consecutive Interpreting For Networking Program With Media Of The 16^th CAEXPO & CABIS

As the important trade fair and economic event recognized and co-founded by the leaders of China and the ASEAN countries,China-ASEAN EXPO and China-ASEAN Business&Investment Summit are held annually in Nanning,Guangxi Autonomous Region of China.With the ongoing development of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Zone and the Belt and Road Initiative,CAEXPO and CABIS have seen expanding scale and growing attention.Every year journalists from home and abroad are invited to cover the event for the promotion of CAEXPO and CABIS.The CAEXPO Secretariat,who provides reception service and news service for the invited journalists,would carry out the Networking Program with Media during the event for the purpose of having a face-to-face exchange with the journalists and collecting opinions from the journalists on the news service and promotion work of the CAEXPO and CABIS.This report is an in-depth study of the consecutive interpreting conducted by the author in the Networking Program with Media of the 16^th CAEXPO&CABIS,with thorough analysis of the deficiencies,challenges,interpreting strategies in the interpreting.The insufficient advance preparation affected the interpreting quality,which showed the importance of advance preparation in interpreting.It is worth noting that preparation should not only be made before interpreting,but also during and after interpreting.Through analyses,errors in the interpretation,missing of information and disfluency were associated with psychology and competence of the interpreter.In the consecutive relay interpreting,the interpreter ought to mediate the turn-taking properly to achieve better communication.In addition,appropriate application of interpreting strategies helped the author with his work.With detailed reflection of the consecutive interpreting for the 16^th CAEXPO&CABIS,this retrospective report points the way for the author’s advancement in interpreting practice and serves as a practical reference for interpreting practices in the future.
