Reading is a way of getting information and one of the basic skills of language learning.For high school students in China,much attention is put on the explanation of grammar and vocabulary,it is difficult to improve reading comprehension,and the proportion of reading comprehension in College Entrance Examinations is directly related to the total score.Therefore,how to improve the quality of English reading teaching is what we should focus on.We should update the teaching concept in reading teaching,change the teaching methods,the task-based language teaching provides a new direction for us to improve the quality of reading teaching.Task-based teaching method(TBLT)is a further development of communicative language teaching.It emphasizes learning by doing through learners’ discussion,cooperation and practical inquiry to complete the tasks,so as to cultivate students’ language ability.Therefore,this article present two teaching exemplifications,attempts to explore the effectiveness of TBLT in English reading teaching.The research selected 86 students in Grade Two in NO.68 High School as the research subject,Class 2 is Experimental Class while Class 3 is Control Class,conducted a four-month experimental study applying TBLT to the reading teaching in Experimental Class.This research used questionnaires,tests,interviews to collect data,mainly to answer the following questions:1.What is the current situation of English reading for Senior Two students in NO.68 Senior High School in Urumqi?2.Can TBLT effectively improve students’ English reading comprehension scores?3.If so,which aspect(inferring,guessing the meanings of words,summarizing and finding the detailed information)of reading comprehension can be improved more obviously?Finally,after four-month experiment,the research results showed that: the application of TBLT can effectively stimulate students’ interest and enthusiasm.It is beneficial to form good reading habits and reading techniques.It is more effective than traditional teaching method in improving students’ reading comprehension scores.By further analyzing the questions in test paper,finding detailed information can be improved most. |
