This thesis consists of three parts: the source text, the translation, and the translation report based on the translation practice. The source text is from the book Reverse Depression Naturally(excerpt of Chapters One to Four, and Chapter Six),written by Michelle Honda,a Holistic Doctor with Ph.D.This book was published in 2020 by Hatherleigh Press. The author argues that the current approach to treating depression is flawed and that patients taking antidepressants do more harm than good,so she recommends a combination of treatments for various mental disorders.Selected chapters describe the current state of depression, the drawbacks of psychiatric drugs, the effects of serotonin levels on physical and mental health, the types of depression, and the relationship between stress and depression.Given the progressive logical relationship reflected in these five chapters, which helps people understand depression and psychotropic drugs further, the translator chose these five chapters for translation.According to Peter Newmark’s text type classification, the source text belongs to the informative text,so the translator chooses the communicative translation theory as the guiding theory, aiming to make the translation smooth, conform to the expression habits of the target language and attach importance to the reader’s response. In the translation report, the translator introduces the translation task, illustrates the communication theory, and summarizes its practical value to translate informational texts. Finally,it highlighted the theory’s guiding significance to the translator from lexical and syntactic levels.
