Grammar learning occupies an important part in English learning in junior high school. However, with the development of network technology and the arrival of the information age,the traditional grammar teaching methods adopted in some English grammar class have been unable to meet the requirements of the new era,and the flipped classroom model has begun to receive great attention.Flipped classroom effectively combines education with internet technology. It reverses the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content outside of the classroom and moving activities, including those that may have traditionally been considered homework, into the classroom. But there are not many researchers who emphasize application of flipped classroom to English grammar teaching in junior high school in China. So there is still much room left in this field. The purpose of this paper is to study the following three issues:1.What effects does the flipped classroom model have on students’ grammatical competence?2.What effects does the flipped classroom model have on students’ autonomous learning ability ?3.What problems arise in the implementation of flipped classroom? And what are the corresponding solutions? This study covers three rounds of research which last ten weeks in total and chooses 99 students of two classes from grade seven as experimental subjects. The researcher applies flipped classroom model to experimental class while the students in control class are taught traditionally. To answer the first research question, the researcher collects the first monthly exam,pretests,post-tests and final exam results, uses SPSS23.0 software to analyze the grammar teaching effect of the two models, and investigates the other two research questions through interview, questionnaire and classroom observation. After organizing and analyzing the final data, the major findings are presented as following:1.There is no significant difference between experimental class and control class in the first two rounds of research by comparing the results of pretests and post-tests,but the significant difference occurs in the third round. The results of this research illustrate that flipped classroom model can effectively improve students’ grammatical competence.2.The research results show the three dimensions of students’ autonomous learning ability, students’ awareness of autonomous learning, autonomous learning behaviour and self-management ability, have enhanced at different degree. Therefore, the research proves that flipped classroom model can improve the development of students’ autonomous learning ability.3.The researcher also concludes the problems and corresponding solutions in flipped classroom of each round from the perspectives of teachers, students and parents respectively. All in all,the application of flipped classroom to English grammar class in junior high school is feasible and effective.Based on the results of this study, the author reflects on some shortcomings of this thesis and tries to put forward some suggestions for further study.
