With continuous improvement of international status,China makes its voice getting louder on the global stage.International conference,as an important path for the world to get to know China, has levelled up its demands on simultaneous interpretation(SI)as well as its requirement for working as an interpreter. It is of great significance, therefore,to summarize the strategies base on the practice on the Third International High-Level Forum on Sustainable Urban Development. The pragmatic translation is the combination of pragmatics with translation studies, which regards translation as a process of determining the pragmatic meaning of discourse by comparing two languages and culture within context. The interpreter,in the meantime, should infer the communicative intention of the source language, and combine the cognitive context of the audience so as to achieve the best context effect and the best communicative intention in the process of selection and adaptation. As a verbal communicative behavior,SI is dynamic and thus, the best strategy that simultaneous interpreters should adopt is to integrate speech intention into special contexts. In other words, context,as an essential part in pragmatic translation, restricts the language meaning, thus affecting the interpreter’s understanding and meaning transferring.Although dozens of scholars applied pragmatic translation into translation strategy studies, most of them were attracted by deixis, conversation principle, adaptation theory, relevancy theory,as well as speech act theory while few study interpreting strategies from the perspective of context. This SI practice is a challenging transmission of communication intention with a large amount of information from the source language to the target language with limited time.Facing challenges of high information density and cultural differences, the interpreter should adopt the most cost-effective interpreting strategy.Besides, text from this practice features long, reduplicative and rhetoric and is equipped with manifesting Chinese linguistic characteristics.Accordingly, the present author examines the real effect of different compression strategies in various contexts from the perspective of pragmatic translation to verify whether it could save energy and transfer the communicative intention effectively. Conclusions from the report can be drawn as follows: 1)in the cultural context, simplification, substitution and ellipsis can be used as compression skills to make up for the cultural differences contained in culture-loaded information and idiomatic expression;2)in the situational context, compression of field and tenor related information can be accomplished by means of simplification and omission;3)in the context of text, with context clues, repeated information and hyponymy can be condensed through sentence combination and omission;4)in the cognitive context, working memory system, stimulated by utterance and context,is conducive for the interpreter to extract the relevant background knowledge stored in cognitive context.Substitution and sentence combination can be applied to avoid misunderstanding and embarrassment brought about by the customary difference. These specific compression techniques are conducive to transferring the exact communication intention with concise production apart from saving energy and time. This report demonstrates that pragmatic translation owns guiding significance for the study of interpreting strategies. The author hopes that this report can provide probable directions for future interpreting studies and attracting more attention on pragmatic translation.
