This is a report on the English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting practice themed on Effective Youth Employment and Innovation as a Key to a Worldwide Economic Bloom.Facing the grim prospect of employment,entrepreneurial environment,and innovation during the epidemic,Mun Impact,a global community believing in the power of Model United Nations in support of the sustainable development goals(SDGs),invites four experts to discuss at the open forum on how to establish and promote the correct concept of employment,entrepreneurship and innovation so as to achieve the goal of sustainable development.The forum includes a35-minute speaker’s personal statement and a 40-minute guiding discussion.The interpreter conducts the pre-interpreting preparation and the simultaneous interpreting practice under the guidance of Gil’s effort model.In the report,the interpreter divides the challenges encountered in simultaneous interpreting into three categories,namely listening comprehension,short-term memory and speech production.Waiting,segmentation,and consulting pre-interpreting preparation are employed to relieve listening stress;Omission and reformulation are conducted to address the challenges brought by short-term memory;Paraphrasing,parroting,addition,and anticipation are applied in terms of speech production.Lastly,the interpreter sums up her problems in simultaneous interpreting practice by post-interpreting reflection like misinterpretation,missing interpreting,and deficiency in application of the skills in order to improve psychological and bilingual conversion ability through repeated practice of the mentioned strategies.
