Abstract/Summary:
The 2019 International Training Workshop on Prevention and Control of Animal Diseases in Southeast Asia was successfully held in Nanning,capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region,whose aim was to promote the exchange and cooperation of the prevention and control of animal diseases between China and the Southeast Asian countries.Trusted by the Guangxi Veterinary Research Institute,the author was invited as an interpreter for this workshop.Written from the perspective of a would-be professional interpreter,this thesis is a summary and report on the interpreting task of the international training workshop.With the guidance of the Interpretive Theory,the report conducts detailed case analysis and research on the corpus collected from the interpreting task,with a focus on three problems encountered in the task,namely,translating speakers’ English varieties,professional terms and complex sentences.According to the analysis,it is found that in international workshops,translating speakers’ English varieties should be dealt with by using condensation;for translating professional terms,generalization should be adopted;and that for translating complex sentences,sense groups segmentation should be employed.The aim of this report,which is based on the author’s personal interpreting practice and experience,is to provide useful references for international workshops interpreting task and a new perspective for interpreting studies in the future.
