| With the deepening of the Belt and Road Initiative,China has gained more attention on the global stage and taken greater responsibilities for the international community.Interpreting,as a powerful bridge for international exchanges, serves to promote mutual understanding and communication among individuals of various cultures. To build the Belt and Road, the China-ASEAN Expo, with 15 successive sessions having been held so far, boosts the initiation of related programs such as the establishment of the China-ASEAN Technology Transfer Center. This report is based on the author’s consecutive interpreting practice during the 16thChina-ASEAN Expo.Assigned by the China-ASEAN Technology Transfer Center, the task was to interpret for a symposium on start-up incubation among the participants including the Indonesian delegation from the Regional Research and Development Agency of South Sumatera Province.Under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Mode, this report aimed to explore three kinds of disfluencies including pauses, corrections, and repeats during the process of consecutive interpreting. The author transcribed the recording of the symposium and worked out the frequency of the disfluencies occurring in the interpreting process.By analyzing and comparing the cases, three main reasons for the disfluencies were found as follows:source language incoherence of the speaker, cognitive load of the interpreter caused by accents, and speed rate of the source language. Finally,it came up with some strategies:promoting language abilities of restructuring and summarizing, intensifying listening comprehension, and enhancing language proficiency, especially bilingual proficiency. Therefore, interpreters are required to pay attention to them and apply the corresponding tactics to facilitate their language output and guarantee the interpreting quality. |
