In the year of 2019,the author worked as a Chinese volunteer teacher at the Confucius Institute at the Federal University of Minas Gerais,Brazil.Through teaching investigation and research,the author found that Brazilian Chinese learners lack the necessary understanding and knowledge of Chinese traditional festival.The language courses dominated the curriculum provision in the Confucius Institute the author teached,which also lack of setting independent cultural courses,so that the cultural teaching depended too much on language teaching.For example,in the aspect of teaching Chinese traditional festival,Chinese teachers lack the input and explanation of traditional festival knowledge,the teaching can only be manifested mainly through a few cultural activities.Traditional festivals are the products of long-term accumulation and cohesion of the history and culture of the country or nation,which contains profound cultural connotation.In teaching Chinese as a foreign language,the traditional festival teaching can provide a platform for Brazilian Chinese learners to learn more about Chinese culture,so that they can have a deep understanding of the culture and promote their learning abilities on the study of Chinese.Based on this situation,this paper takes the traditional festival teaching as the main content of the research,takes the Chinese learners and Chinese teachers of the Confucius Institute as the main research objects.With the methods of corpus collection,questionnaire and on-sit interview,this paper studied the Chinese traditional festival learning of Brazilian Chinese learners and the teaching of Chinese teachers,then put forward relevant suggestions and strategies.The structure of this paper is as follows: Firstly,summarized and outlined research related to this topic over the years.Secondly,through the introduction of curriculum,teachers,teaching objects,teaching materials,cultural activities and other contents of the Confucius Institute,learned more about the current situation of cultural teaching in the Confucius Institutes.Then,through the investigation,collate and analysis of the traditional festival learning status of the Confucius Institute Chinese learners and the teaching situation of Chinese teachers,the paper summarizes the problems of Brazilian Chinese learners perception of Chinese traditional festivals and the teaching of teachers,then further elaborate on its causes.On this basis,in order to embody the teaching of traditional festivals,the Double Ninth Festival was chosen as the representative of Chinese traditional festivals.Through specific instructional design,further deepen the understanding of Brazilian Chinese learners to Chinese traditional festivals.Finally,combined with the author’s own learning and teaching experience,proposed the suggestions and strategies from the perspective of teachers,students and Confucius Institute.
