| The rapid development of science and technology has promoted the translation of EST texts.Under the guidance of the Skopos theory, this report presents an analysis of the translation techniques employed in the English-Chinese translation process of an EST text. The report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the background and significance of this translation practice task, and reasons for choosing this material. The second chapter analyzes the source text, and describes the translation process in detail, including the pre-translation preparations, the process of translation and the post-translation proofreading. The third chapter is literature review and theoretical framework, which summarizes the literature review related to EST texts translation and a brief introduction to the Skopos theory, with a focus on the three rules of the Skopos theory.Having laid the theoretical basis of this practice report, the fourth chapter explores ways to address the problems in the process of translation under the guidance of the Skopos theory. At the lexical level, abbreviations of technical words make the text concise and faithful.A correct understanding of the context and professional dictionaries enables the translator to determine the exact meaning of polysemous words. The conversion of the word’s part of speech is employed to the nouns in most nominalization structures. At the syntactic level, word order adjustment is used to deal with difficulties in attributive postposition sentences.Passive sentences can be translated into Chinese active sentences, and splitting and restructuring are beneficial for translating long and difficult sentences. At the discoursal level, the author uses addition, substitution, omission and other methods to make the target text logical and coherent. The fifth chapter summarizes the major findings in this translation practice,as well as the limitations and suggestions for further work. |
