It is well known that children’s literature plays an important role in children’s healthy growth.There are many native children’s literary works in domestic market,and there are also a number of foreign children’s literary works which have been introduced into China.But it’s not long that children’literature was given attention to as an independent literary branch,and related study on the translation of children’s literature in China is not adequate enough.On the other hand,due to various reasons,the quality of translation of children’s literature is not satisfactory enough.In view of this,the present thesis attempts to make a research on E-C translation of children’s literature from the perspective of reception aesthetics,using the present author’s E-C translation of The Bridge Home as a case for study.The thesis starts with a brief introduction to the research background,task profile,significance of the study and thesis structure.After that,the author expounds the preparation before translating,translating process and post-translating work.Next,the thesis introduces the theoretical basis of the present research,i.e.,Reception Aesthetics,including a survey of the theory,its core concepts,and its application in the study of children’s literary translation.Then in the body part,based on the relevant ideals of receptions aesthetics,the author makes a case study on the E-C translation of children’s literature from the levels of lexis,syntax,rhetoric and culture,using the author’s E-C translation of The Bridge Home as an example.The present study finds that,based on the principle of reader-orientation,translators can come up with the translated versions which are more suitable to target children readers.At the lexical level,given the characteristics of vocabularies in children’s literature,colloquial words,visual words,reduplicated words and onomatopoetic words may be adopted to better activate children readers’imagination and promote their understanding.At the syntactic level,translators may need to make shifts between long sentences and short sentences,and if necessary,the information structure in the original sentences may need to be rearranged.At the rhetorical level,translators are supposed to correctly convey the meaning of the original text by using appropriate rhetorical devices,which can also strengthen the aesthetic value of the translation.At the cultural level,translators can adopt transliteration and annotation to deal with culture-loaded words.Also,liberal translation can be properly adopted.It is expected that the thesis may provide some useful references for the future in-depth study on children’s literary translation.
