A Report On The C-E Translation Of Central Plains Culture(Excerpts From Chapter 8)

Intangible culture is the essence of a regional or even a national culture.Intangible cultural heritage of Henan Province is an important part of the central plains culture and even Chinese culture.Against the strategic background of spreading Chinese culture overseas,it is very necessary to introduce Henan intangible cultural heritage projects to the world via translation.In particular,there are few translated texts concerning these projects now.Thus,the translator has selected for her translation practice the eighth chapter of Central Plains Culture as the source text which introduces the folk music,folk arts,folk dances and folk operas of Henan Province.This translation report can be divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction to the background,the source text,and the purposes and significance of the task.Chapter Two is mainly about the translation process,including the preparation work,difficulties in the translation and revision.Chapter Three is the case analysis.Under the theory of adaptation,the translator mainly analyzes the key difficulties during the translation from the lexical and syntactic levels.Through the adaptation to the context,the purpose and target readers’ cognition,different translation methods are used to deal with both culture-loaded words and Chinese long sentences.The last chapter is the summary of the translation task involving gains from the translation practice,existing deficiencies and possible improvements in the future.The purpose of this translation task is to let more people at abroad know more about the intangible cultural heritages of the central plains,to provide a reference text for target readers who love the folk culture and arts,and to call for an official translation with a higher quality,so as to promote the protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritages of Henan Province.
