Abstract/Summary:
Background To investigate the relationship between serum neuropeptides [calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP),somatostatin(SS)] and inflammatory cytokines[C-reactive protein(CRP),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1)and soluble inhibits cell adhesion molecule-1(s ICAM-1)] in patients with stable coronary atherosclerotic heart disease(CAD)complicated with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods Based on whether coronary stenosis exceeded 54% and had T2 DM,245patients were divided into four groups: Normal group(no CAD or T2 DM,n=58),CAD group(n=68),T2 DM group(n=53)and CAD +T2DM group(n= 66),the differences in serum neuropeptides(CGRP,SS)and inflammatory factors(CRP,TNF-α,IL-1β,MCP-1,SICAM-1)in the above four groups were compared, and then the correlation between serum neuropeptides and inflammatory factors in 245 patients was analyzed. Results Compared with normal group, serum CGRP and SS of CAD group,T2 DM group and CAD +T2DM group were lower, and CRP,TNF-α,IL-1β,MCP-1 and s ICAM-1 were higher, the differences were statistically significant(P < 0.05).Compared with CAD group and T2 DM group, serum CGRP and SS in CAD +T2DM group were lower, while CRP,TNF-α,IL-1β,MCP-1 and s ICAM-1 were higher, and the differences were statistically significant(P < 0.05).In 245 patients, serum CGRP,SS were negatively correlated with each inflammatory factors(CRP,TNF-α,IL-1β,MCP-1,SICAM-1),with statistical significance(P < 0.05).Conclusion T2 DM may induce CAD through decreased release of serum neuropeptides and increased release of inflammatory factors. The level of serum neuropeptides(CGRP,SS)can be measured to predict the level of inflammation in the body.
