The Study On Confucius And Mencius’ Disease Thoughts

The Analects of Confucius was written in the early Warring States Period,is a classic composed of Confucius’ words,deeds and thoughts recorded by his disciples.The book named Mencius was written in the late Warring States Period,is a compilation about the sayings of Mencius compiled by him and his disciples.As Chinese Confucian classics,they are full of humanistic concern.In Confucianism,Confucius and Mencius always follow up like a shadow,with Confucius leading the sub-sages,Mencius following The Analects of Confucius.Their tenets were always in harmony,and therefore,their doctrines were known as "the doctrine of Confucius and Mencius".This paper mainly analyzes the Analects of Confucius and Mencius,and chooses a new Angle--disease thought,to expand the research on Confucius and Mencius in a new field,putting aside the perspectives that scholars have explored.Therefore,the main body of this paper is divided into four chapters:The introduction part is divided into two sections.The first section is about the research status and trend of the topic.The second section introduces the method and significance of topic.The first chapter mainly summarizes the basic situation of disease writing in the works of Confucius and Mencius.Through the definition of disease writing,and thus leads to sort literature which about The Analects of Confucius and Mencius’ disease writing,according to these two books which in the "disease" "illness" "transformation" and other words,take the angle of body as the main choice.We found some disease writing in 11 places about The Analects of Confucius,and the disease writing of Mencius appeared in 19 places,then the compare the contents and thought of disease writing in the similarities and differences of two works,and found that both inheritance and innovation.The second chapter focuses on analyzing the humanistic consciousness reflected by Confucius and Mencius’ attitude towards disease.It is classified and analyzed from four aspects: life,career,personality and aesthetics.It is further manifested as,first,the awareness of suffering in life,including two aspects: the suffering of life caused by emotion and the thinking of suffering caused by difficulties;The second is the sense of responsibility of an official,which is manifested as the personal realistic responsibility and the responsibility of the country.Thirdly,the freedom of personality is embodied in the freedom of words and deeds and spirit of a gentleman.The fourth is the aesthetic emotion consciousness,which is analyzed from two angles: the implicit aesthetic concept and the externalization of aesthetic emotion.It can be seen that Confucius and Mencius’ humanistic care for diseases is diverse and profound.The third chapter further analyzes the relationship between disease concern and the personality of Confucius and Mencius,and abstracts the "benevolence" and "forgiveness" of Confucian thought represented by Confucius and Mencius.From the perspective of the subject of implementation,"benevolence" can be divided into two aspects: Ren Ren and Ren Min,that is,benevolence of ordinary people to ordinary people and benevolence of leaders to subordinates."Forgiveness",from the perspective of interpersonal relationship,refers to the self and the other.The other and the self promote each other,influence and develop each other.At the same time,the present value significance of "benevolence" and "forgiveness" for disease concern is explored respectively,and it is found that today’s society is still applicable after "taking the essence and discarding the dross".Finally,it summarizes the Confucian school represented by Confucius and Mencius.Their thought not only serves for the social politics at that time,but also advocates the value of human nature by truly starting from the interests of the people.The humanistic spirit advocated by Confucianism still has reference significance in today’s socialism.It is also of great significance and realistic value for us to reassess the development of the harmonious relationship between people by absorbing the essence from the humanistic spirit,taking people as the foundation and practicing virtue.
