| To boost economic development and citizens’ worth of living,railway organizations worldwide depend on investing in infrastructure and the efficacy of the current infrastructure properties.The aim of railroad infrastructure asset management intends to mitigate the lack of timely rail infrastructure investment and the poor upkeep of the current rail infrastructure assets.Railroad infrastructure asset management relies on evidence-based strategic railway asset management decision-making.It necessitates quality rail asset information from Information Technology(IT)and control systems that is appropriate and harmonized.This study followed a well-established,valid,and comprehensive research methodology.A pragmatic epistemological approach was taken,and design science was chosen as a study theory.In developing and evaluating a preliminary hypothesis,the design science research philosophy was combined with an inductive-hypothetic research approach(i.e.,the Botswana Railways Approach design).The Botswana Railways Approach was put to the test by demonstrating its use and testing its assumed utility and usability.The Botswana Railways Approach is an integrated enterprise-wide approach to rail asset knowledge governance and management.It is also a technique for incorporating and implementing this modern way of thought,operating,managing,and modelling at a company with a lot of rail infrastructure assets.Asset information needs to be monitored,governed,and used as an enterprise-wide resource for efficient infrastructure asset management,as per the overall philosophy.The Botswana Railways Approach was put to the test in Botswana Railways.The findings revealed that the issues found within the base case and generalized from literature are common in large,complex infrastructure asset-intensive organizations.The Botswana Railways Approach is a one-of-a-kind piece of history.It fills a knowledge gap present in the digital governance and control system environments.IT governance,IT management,information managing,and conformity to some formal standard,code,or structure contributes to the solution.It focuses on digital governance to help broad and complex infrastructure asset-intensive organizations to make tactical infrastructure asset decisions.The study also offers suggestions for imminent studies.Examples include,1)adapting,contextualizing,and implementing the Botswana Railways Approach to resolve the information management and digital governance issues that railway organizations with different business units face,and 2)developing and implementing a life cycle cost(LCC)model using a mathematical model and a Monte Carlo spreadsheet to assist in railway infrastructure asset management decision making. |
