There are lots of residential buildings of the Ming Dynasty in the Mid-Jiangsu region,which have not been fully researched so far.By statistical analysis,case study,and comparative study,this research will give a comprehensive understanding of the construction characteristic of structural carpentry in these residential buildings.The first chapter introduces the origin and background of the topic,defines the scope of the research,analyzes the current research situation,combs the research objectives,contents,methods and ideas,and summarizes the structure of the thesis.The second chapter briefly introduces the administrative divisions and geographical environment of the Mid-Jiangsu region,together with the survey situation,then selects the research samples,explains their distribution and preservation status,and expounds the historical and institutional background.The third to sixth chapters are the main body of this thesis.This part carries on the research analysis from four sections.These are the construction characteristic of structural carpentry of residential buildings themselves,typical cases,contrasts of related cases and literature.The research on construction characteristics is mainly focused on two aspects.One is the rule of structural carpentry’s frame and component,and the other is the scale of it.The research on typical cases has adopted the method of specific analysis and identification of 16 representative cases,which are selected based on the statistical results of the third chapter,and then summed up the common characteristics of the typical 12 cases.The comparison with relative cases is a further analysis of similarities and differences of residential buildings in the region and the era.The comparison with historical literature is based on the common conclusions drawn in the third and fourth chapters,aims to explore the similarities and differences between the research objects.The seventh chapter summarizes the overall research results of the thesis and re-discusses the objects of the study,re-distinguishes the recorded "residential buildings of the Ming Dynasty",analyzes the shortcomings of the thesis,and put forward ideas and prospects for further research work. |
