Research On Coastaldefense Settlement Systemof Liaodongregion In Ming Dynasty

The Liaodong region in Ming Dynasty is located at the northernmost Six Townsystem of Eastern coastal defence, and it connected to the southern part of Qingzhouin Shandong Province and Bohai Strait, as the capital left arm to cooperate withShandong Peninsula to guard the sea coast. The coast defence status in Liaodong isparticularly important. Because of the pirate’s intrusion since the Yuan Dynasty, thecoastal defense in Liaodong region had been subject to the court’s attention. To theMing Dynasty, the Liaodong region forms a complete set system of coastal defencesettlements from the island to the coast, and from coast to the mainland. The systemcreates from the layout of settlement to the city building and monomers creating, itclearly reflects the architecture character in the coastal defense of Liaodong region.From the architectural point of view, this is the necessary case study of the Ming’scoastal defence distribution and construction characters.This paper defines the time and space in Liaodong region of Ming Dynasty andthe coastal defence settlement system as the study subject. It systematically combinesits developmental context, builds its overall structure, and analysis of the root causesand its intrinsical connection. At first, by trimming the information of architectureliterature, a complete Liaodong coastal defence settlement system will be determinedas its composing, and then to analyze and summarize the creating mechanism andspace rule from the views of composition layout. As followed by a verticalcomparison method of diachronic coastal defence work in the synchronic defensesystem, a deeper analysis will refine further on the coastal defence settlement system.At last, the representative settlements and building monomers will be emphaticallyinvestigated. It will analyze the street layout of coastal defence settlements and theconstruction characters of architecture monomers, and consequently it will reveal theinfluence on architecture by the culture structural levels.
