The development of contemporary Chinese architecture had a small upsurge around the 10 th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China,with the " Ten Great Buildings" in.A 20-year hiatus followed.Towards the end of 1970 s,a period of economic reform began.Facing an upsurge in the amount of construction,the fourth generation of modern Chinese architects took on Western standards,while they also considered issues of identity.After years of exploration and efforts,their international reputation has gradually been more evident.Wang Shu and Zhang Ke received high international awards and these might be considered to reflect well on the issue of the identity of Chinese architecture.On the other hand,in the period of economic reform,Chinese construction quality has been relatively low and urban development generally disorderly.There is an urgent need to review and analyze prominent architects and architectural practices in contemporary China,in order to provide lessons and guidance for contemporary work.As an architect who has entered maturality in the context of Chinese design institutes,Li Xinggang occupies a prominent position among Chinese architects.Starting in the early years of his career,Li has been attending to the basic architectural elements of the western architecture system,while emphasizing the relevance of Chinese tradition to contemporary practice.In 2014,he design notion," Integrated Geometry and Poetic Scenery ".Around the same time,the author of the present thesis entered Li’s studio for an internship,gained a large amount of first-hand information,and organized and recorded an interview.Using these first-hand materials,detailed studies of three projects was undertaken to understand the design process more accurately and deeply,.On the basis of these studies,a comparison of these projects was also made.At the final part of this thesis,the author summarizes both conceptual and practical aspects of Li Xinggang’s work and elaborates the significance of Li’s work in its historical context.
