China has entered an aging society, and the number of elderly people living alone is increasing year by year.In the fast-paced social life, the elderly are regarded as a vulnerable group, and their independence and self-esteem needs have not received due attention. In addition to the basic physiological needs of the daily life of the elderly living alone, the frequent physical discomforts with the growth of age and their unwillingness to trouble their children make it common for the elderly to go to hospital alone. The scale of hospital buildings is becoming larger, the diagnosis and treatment space is becoming more complex, the informatization of medical treatment process is developing rapidly, and the social change has increased a lot of inconvenience for the elderly to seek medical treatment independently. It is urgent to promote the development of public buildings to universal and age-appropriate design, effectively improve the quality of life of the elderly, and ensure their ability and self-esteem to participate independently in social life.In this paper, the wayfinding performance index of the elderly independent treatment in the outpatient department of the general hospital was taken as the basis to provide reference and theoretical support for the aging appropriate design of medical buildings.Wayfinding problems as the research topics of mutual interest from many disciplines, scholars did a lot of discussion and research at home and abroad, but the object of study is usually focused on strong cognitive ability and the ability to act young and middle-aged,the lack of the attention of the special groups,is conditioned by sample particularity and difficulty, still little research and experiment on the old wayfinding. In real life, the changes in the body function and cognitive ability, wayfinding in hospital outpatient visits this seemingly normal behavior process is full of challenges for the elderly, the elderly wayfinding performance influence factor system and there is a partial cross relationship, confused at present for the performance of wayfinding research adopts "classification discussion, qualitative design" or "one class discussion, quantitative analysis" method, based on the previous proposed based on the related theory of the influence factors of the performance of wayfinding layer on exploratory analysis,The process of "literature review-field investigation-experimental analysis-conclusion verification" makes the research more logical, the conclusion more convincing, and provides a new way of thinking for the study of wayfinding elements. The main work of this paper is divided into six chapters, the specific content is as follows:The first chapter is the introduction, which summarizes the research background, purpose and significance, object and scope, research method and paper framework of this paper, and clarifies the research direction and thinking on the basis of domestic and foreign literature review. The second chapter, related theories and research, focuses on the development of outpatient departments in hospitals, the physiological and psychological characteristics of the elderly, wayfinding theory and related elements and other contents made a systematic description, and classified and summarized the factors affecting wayfinding performance of the elderly, which laid a theoretical foundation for the following research. The third chapter is an investigation on the status quo of wayfinding for the elderly seeking medical treatment independently.Firstly, the phenomena and problems in the process of the elderly seeking medical treatment are summarized through the preliminary investigation, and the necessity and feasibility of the study are determined. After to comb the research contents and methods, and selected the five comprehensive 3 armour hospital and 150 elderly sample as research object, through the behavior note method and semi-structured interview methods, such as the elderly in the wayfinding performance and influence factors of hospital outpatient department of quantitative statistics, the analysis concludes that the main(load)largest of three elements,as a further study of the variables. The fourth chapter is the simulation experiment of wayfinding performance of the elderly. On the basis of the research conclusion, using virtual reality technology, taking wayfinding performance of the elderly subjects as the basis, through the orthogonal experiment method, the optimal values of the three variables are obtained, which provides a quantitative basis for the design of the outpatient department of the hospital.Chapter v of the old wayfinding performance verification experiment,in order to validate the conclusion of simulation experiment, the research object according to the experiment obtained the optimal value of the indicators for clinical modification design, space, and to modify the wayfinding performance before and after the VR contrast experiment, verify the effectiveness of the conclusion in this paper. The sixth chapter summarizes the conclusions and innovations of this paper, points out the shortcomings and prospects of the research, and puts forward suggestions and paving the way for future related research.
