With the development of China’s higher education reform,the education mode of colleges and universities has gradually changed to encourage students to learn independently.Today’s campuses are getting bigger,teaching areas more beautiful,and outdoor spaces more spacious,but are today’s outdoor learning spaces meeting the learning needs of students? What kind of outdoor learning space is suitable for students to do outdoor learning? Under these doubts,on the one hand,we conducted a detailed study on the outdoor learning space in the teaching area of Chongqing central city colleges and universities;on the other hand,we understood students’ usage and feelings about the outdoor learning space,which is of great significance to improve the design theory of outdoor learning space in the teaching area of colleges and universities and enhance the vitality of outdoor learning space in the teaching area,and the specific research contents are as follows:(1)Investigate and study the outdoor learning space in the university teaching area in the central city of Chongqing,and understand that the distribution of outdoor learning space is concentrated,sporadic and evenly distributed,and summarized the characteristics of various types of outdoor learning spaces,Insufficiency and applicability,as well as the learning behavior methods applicable to different types of outdoor learning spaces.(2)Understand the needs of students’ outdoor learning behavior,and use interview method and questionnaire survey method to investigate the outdoor learning situation of college students.Learners’ outdoor learning behaviors are generally in the form of 1-2people learning;after evaluating the importance of the elements of outdoor learning space,it is found that users generally attach importance to the infrastructure,shading and rain sheltering facilities and plant greening in the space;A survey of satisfaction with outdoor learning spaces found that users are relatively satisfied with the current outdoor learning spaces in the campus teaching area and hope to increase the infrastructure of outdoor learning spaces.(3)The research has discovered the specific connection between outdoor learning space and learners’ outdoor learning behavior needs.Through correlation analysis,the factors that affect the satisfaction of outdoor learning space use are studied,and the relationship between spatial environmental factors and user experience is deeply analyzed.The quantitative relationship between(1)comfort and the material and quantity of tables and chairs in the space,shade and rain protection facilities,environmental quietness,cleanliness and green environment are strongly correlated;(2)safety is strongly correlated with night lighting facilities;(3)privacy There is a strong correlation with being less disturbed by pedestrians and the space has a certain enclosure;(4)Accessibility has a strong correlation with road traffic convenience,and the distance to the teaching building;(5)Aesthetics has a strong correlation with plant species and space modeling;(6)There is a strong correlation between cultural and landscape art facilities.Provide basic information for space optimization design.(4)Relevant cognitive summaries are made on the subject and object of the outdoor learning space.The subject aspect mainly involves outdoor learners’ learning behavior types,learning behavior characteristics and learning psychological needs;the object aspect mainly includes the types,constituent elements,characteristics and functional attributes of outdoor learning spaces in college teaching areas.(5)Combining the specific problems of outdoor learning space in terms of comfort,accessibility,safety,privacy,aesthetics and culture,based on the comfort requirements and accessibility of outdoor learning by students.Requirements,security requirements,privacy requirements,aesthetic requirements and cultural requirements propose targeted optimization strategies.Combining practical cases,taking the teaching area of Southwest University as an example,the courtyard-type,square-type,and garden-type outdoor learning spaces are optimized to create a campus that attracts people to study outdoors.(6)Conclusion and discussion: As the core area of the campus,the learning function of the outdoor space of the teaching area should be paid attention to.However,at present,most of the outdoor spaces in teaching areas of colleges and universities lack learning facilities and have unclearly defined functional attributes,which cannot meet the needs of students for outdoor learning.When optimizing the design of outdoor learning space,it should fully combine the types of outdoor learning behavior of students and the characteristics of outdoor learning behavior,arrange the elements and optimize the details of the space according to the psychological needs of outdoor learning,emphasize the learning function of the space,and create a campus space full of learning vitality.This is important for promoting students’ learning enthusiasm,as well as improving campus culture and learning atmosphere.
