With the rapid development of a new round of technological revolution and industrial revolution,a large number of new technology,new knowledge constantly emerging,the core competence of social development for talents quality requirement enhances unceasingly,the students’ comprehensive quality and innovative ability compared with the professional knowledge of master show a all-around development potential,further highlight the status and role of general education.However,China’s current general education curriculum system still needs to be improved in many aspects,whether in the understanding of the concept or in the process of practical operation.New engineering reflect the demand of future economic and social development and the innovation and development trend of higher engineering education reform,colleges and universities in our country should seize the new opportunity for the construction of engineering,by deepening the reform of general education curriculum practice,effective play to the general education courses in the students’ ability to enhance the quality,broaden,and the important role of cultivating,further improving the quality of engineering talents cultivation in colleges and universities,promote the construction of new engineering and development.This paper analyzes the theoretical schools of general education and the external driving environment for the development of the general education curriculum system by means of literature research,and explores the theoretical basis and operation mode for the construction of the general education curriculum system.Then,combined with the future engineering talent training requirements contained in the new engineering construction,we have an in-depth understanding of the new requirements and challenges in the objectives,contents and methods of the general education curriculum system under the background of the new engineering construction.New engineering contains the view of engineering and student-centered education concept,with the connotation and characteristics of multidisciplinary cross fusion for general education curriculum system to further optimize the structure of engineering students’ quality and conform to the lifelong development needs for its formation and the comprehensive quality of future demand for engineering practice and engineering quality,grow into well-rounded engineering science and technology innovation talents lay a solid foundation.This paper holds that the organic combination of general education and professional education,breaking through the boundary of discipline and specialty to carry out cross-border integrated training,and promoting the formation of strong synergy between professional curriculum and general education curriculum in accordance with the requirements of coordinated development of knowledge,skills,quality and personality are the breakthrough points for the reform of general education curriculum system.Further investigation to know to grasp the connotation of general education in colleges and universities is not enough in-depth and general objective,structure of a curriculum goal design guidance is insufficient,lack of integration of teaching contents,teaching means of the single and the problem of general curriculum evaluation mechanism imperfect is widespread,and has failed to new engineering professional training goal form comprehensive power.Then,using a case study and comparative research to dig the United States at the Massachusetts institute of technology and Stanford university general education curriculum system reform process and characteristics,summed up the two schools in shaping students’ core value and response to the social development of the concept of demand orientation,development thinking methods and curriculum,the implement method of discipline penetration,etc for new engineering under the background of general education curriculum system optimization provides the useful enlightenment.Finally,from the point of view of responding to the new requirements for the reform of the general education curriculum system put forward by the new engineering construction and alleviating the practical dilemma of the current general education curriculum system,the author proposes to establish the education concept of whole-person development and make an overall plan for the general education curriculum system.Integrate the resources of general education curriculum and develop the competency-based general education curriculum;To expand the teaching form of general education courses and comprehensively enhance students’ learning experience;It is an effective strategy to improve the general education curriculum system and serve the construction of new engineering projects by paying attention to the evaluation of students’ learning results and promoting the continuous improvement of the general education curriculum system.
