Technological progress,industrial innovation and ecological crisis together gave birth to the new industrial revolution,and the rise of the new industrial revolution promoted the development of the new economy,which led to the urgent need for the transformation of the quality structure and training mode of engineering talents.This study is supported by the social science fund of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China under the project of The Study of Engineering Education System for New Industrial Revolution undertaken by China Nine Excellence Alliance Universities(E9).And in this paper,the questions about evolution dynamic of engineering talents cultivation,the quality structure and construction of cultivation mode for engineering talents for new industrial revolution.Then the main results and conclusions withdrawn from this study are as follows:The quality structure of the engineering talents for the new industrial revolution can be constructed from three aspects of knowledge,intelligence and character.The knowledge structure has the comprehensive,multi-level and dynamic characteristics,which intertwines from the vertical to the horizontal to form a three-dimensional network structure.The horizontal includes four basic levels of cultural literacy,engineering literacy,engineering thinking and social engineering science,while the vertical includes four basic levels of basic engineering theory,engineering and technology foundation,professional engineering theory and professional engineering and technology.The rational intelligent structure is the sufficient and necessary condition for the creative activities of the engineering talents for the new industrial revolution,and it is the integration of intelligence and skills that includes technology and ability.And the character cultivation is a key for the engineering education to return to the essence of cultivating-human because rational character structure determines the talent orientation and social value of the engineering talents.The cultivation mode of engineering talents for the new industrial revolution should based on the future,engineering and technology oriented and it should have new cultivation ideas,new cultivation objectives,new quality structure and new cultivation way.Therefore,the traditional concept of discipline oriented should be abandoned and a new concept of Outcoming Basic Education should be accepted.In order to achieve a new transcendence from a scientific orientation to a demand oriented,the cultivation objectives should be to pay attention to the cultivation about the "knowledge+intelligence+character" of all aspects quality instead of scientific knowledge only.The quality structure should be emphasized on the character structure while the knowledge structure and intelligent structure are improved continuesly.For cultivation way,a new integration mechanism should be built between universities,research institutes,government and enterprises with the top-level design concept.In accordance with the theory of engineering with a big E,the transformation of engineering education paradigm from scientific paradigm to engineering paradigm is constantly promoted.However,it is not only following the single value orientation of"engineering",but on the basis of pursuing engineering rationality,the three value orientations of technology,science and engineering are further promoted and dialectically unified.At the same time,according to the characteristics of engineering chain development oriented to the new industrial revolution,the engineering paradigm of engineering education should be expanded and enriched by incorporating the demand for talents of the new industrial revolution in the process of training engineering talents.And this is the inevitable choice for engineering education to meet the challenge of the new round of industrial revolution.The construction approach of the cultivation mode of engineering talents mainly contains three aspects.Firstly,for responsing the call of the times and updating the traditional cultivation idea,the traditional engineering discipline oriented cultivation idea must be transformed into OBE with the three key points of student centered,reverse design and continuous improvement.Secondly,for promoting the paradigm of engineering education to be more perfect and reconstructing cultivation objectives and quality structure,the essence of education must be rationaly returned to character cultivation,the comprehensive knowledge structure must be built up in knowledge and the technology and the abilities must be paid attention in the skill cultivation at the same time.Thirdly,for following the top-level design and reconstructing cultivation method,it is necessary to actively promote the coordination of internal and external environment for the cultivation of engineering talents,and to advance the supply of outstanding talents by promoting the integration of industry and teaching.It is necessary to actively promote the integration of teaching and scientific research,and to devote ourselves to the cultivation,sustainable and competitive engineering talents to meet the needs of the new industrial revolution.It is necessary to actively promote the integration of the secondary and tertiary systems of talent cultivation in universities,to open up barriers between different engineering departments,disciplines,and specialties.
