As the new round of industrial and technological revolution unfolds, the global industrial structure is constantly adjusting and optimizing.China is at a crucial juncture in transitioning from a country with abundant human resources to one with strong human resources. In the context of industrial structure optimization and upgrading, how to cultivate applied talents poses new requirements and challenges for higher education. However, the applied talents cultivated under the current education system are difficult to "apply." The reason lies in the lack of integration and communication with the industry during the talent cultivation process, resulting in insufficient industry cognition among students. Therefore, this study focuses on applied talents and investigates the cultivation of applied talents from the perspective of industry cognition, which holds significant theoretical and practical implications for nurturing high-quality applied talents. This paper begins by elaborating on the concepts of industry and applied talents, clarifying the relationship between cognition and education through relevant cognitive theories, and demonstrating that cognition exhibits certain regularities that require the rational arrangement of educational activities in accordance with cognitive rules.Next,by selecting over a hundred articles on applied talent cultivation from core journals in higher engineering education research,a qualitative analysis is conducted from the perspectives of talent cultivation goals, professional curriculum system, teaching organization system, and practical education methods, identifying the issues with the integration of applied talent cultivation and industry under the current education system. At the same time, interviews and questionnaires are conducted from both the enterprise and graduating student perspectives, addressing issues such as the industry cognition of applied talents.Data is statistically analyzed to gain insight into the real demands of enterprises and feedback from job-seeking graduates, and the causes of the identified problems are thoroughly analyzed.Subsequently,by combining industry-education integration cases, successful examples of applied talent cultivation, such as the 21 provincial industrial colleges announced in Zhejiang in 2022,the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Robotics College of Dongguan University of Technology, and the reform of the chemical engineering major at Changzhou University, are analyzed. The paper draws experience and inspiration from aspects like professional curriculum setting, talent cultivation plans, and teaching organization forms. Finally, based on the analysis of literature and questionnaire survey results, the paper explores specific approaches to improve the industry cognition of applied talents from different subject dimensions, including clarifying applied talent cultivation goals, constructing a scientifically sound professional curriculum system, optimizing the teaching system in all aspects, strengthening practical education, and refining top-level design. This provides referenceable suggestions for enhancing the industry cognition of applied talents.
