For electric water heater products,tank corrosion and water leakage has been a common problem in the industry.However,according to the actual application effect,it can only prolong the leakage time of the inner tank to a certain extent,and can not completely solve the problem of water leakage.In this paper,the modern failure prediction analysis(AFD)and the traditional failure analysis method(FMEA)are integrated to build a process model of improving the product quality of electric water heater based on AFD + FMEA,and the application research is carried out in the process of W company’s anti-corrosion technology for the inner tank.Based on the theory of technology evolution,this paper establishes a model to analyze the customer’s actual demand information through the product function structure,standardizes the collected customer’s basic demand,combines the basic demand with failure analysis,and combines the potential demand with the problem solving stage to solve the customer’s demand.It breaks through the huge limitation of traditional thinking set on product designers,and ultimately improves customer satisfaction with products.Based on the predictive failure analysis(AFD),the AFD is integrated with FMEA to guide designers to obtain more fully the various potential failure modes of products and the failure modes and causes that have occurred,connect them with the basic and potential demands of customers,and arrange them in the order of high and low risks,and then get the key failure modes of products.In this process,the integrated model of AFD and FMEA overcomes the shortcomings of single AFD in screening key failure modes,and overcomes the disadvantage of using FMEA to find failure modes,which requires too high professional ability of designers.In order to solve the failure problem of products and meet the final needs of users,the organic combination of AFD and FMEA not only provides a complete set of predictive failure analysis process based on logical reasoning for product designers,but also provides an effective method for quality department to solve product quality problems.Finally,taking W company’s key problem solving process of corrosion and water leakage of electric water heater as an example,the practical application verification of the product quality problem improvement design process model is carried out,and on this basis,the improved design scheme to solve the corrosion problem of electric water heater is proposed.
