There are many ancient roads and routes in the Taihang Mountain area, among which the most famous one is the "eight xing road" of Taihang. In addition to the "road for vehicles and horses" dominated by military forces and taking into account economic demands, there are also many different levels of roads, such as the "pack road" and "pedestrian path".To perfect the "taihang road" covered by category, this paper takes Jin Yu road smoothly connected in shanxi and henan linzhou, sub level across south taihang mountain road "piggy back" as the breakthrough point of the research, selecting many settlements along its representative in the provincial boundary node position in mountain type merchants post settlement-valley village as the research object,This paper analyzes the development and evolution of the physical space and the morphological characteristics of the villages and analyzes the adaptability of the settlements along the ancient road to the natural and human environment in the process of evolution. Finally,on the basis of previous research, the comparative analysis of settlements along the ancient road at different levels was carried out to highlight the characteristic differences among the settlements along the ancient road in Taihang. This study not only expands the types of historical and cultural heritages of traditional villages in China, but also provides a new perspective and new methods for the study of traditional villages. In the specific research, firstly, through the collection and sorting of historical documents, inscriptions on tablets and interviews, the regional background and economic background of the ancient road that affect the development of the village are sorted out and analyzed,so as to clarify the development context of the village.Secondly, from the perspective of diachronic longitudinal research, this paper analyzes the location of villages and the evolution process of spatial form, and analyzes the influence of natural and human factors on the development process of spatial form by combining quantitative and qualitative methods. Then, the spatial pattern and courtyard group of the village are analyzed from the macro and meso levels, and the components of the village material space--courtyard unit, street and lane, and public node space are comprehensively analyzed from the micro level. The morphological feature representation is detailed, and the influencing factors behind the representation are deeply explored. Finally, the research results of this study were compared with the existing results of the research group to analyze the heterogeneity of the spatial morphological characteristics of the ancient roads at different levels and under their respective influences and the underlying reasons.Through the study of Qiuyu Village,it is found that the whole process of the village from embryonic form to development and expansion and then to the current stable state presents a clear context. The evolution process is affected by multiple factors such as natural environment, population growth, ancient road economy, cultural concept, productivity level and so on.Through the comparison of the related contents of different ancient roads,it is found that in the settlements along the ancient roads, especially in the nodal settlements, the influence of the ancient roads on villages is not only positively related to the level of the ancient roads, but also closely related to the terrain, landform and geographical location of the villages.
