From November 16-17,2019,Liu Dunzhen,Liu Shiying and the International Forum of Modern Chinese Architectural Education,held at the School of Architecture of Hunan University,Liu Shiying is a modern architect,educator,planner,and former vice president——head of the Department of Civil Engineering,and one of the founders of the architectural discipline.Therefore,the in-depth study of Liu Shiying is not only helpful for the academic circles to understand more clearly the behavior activities and ideological evolution of the first group of Japanese architects in modern China,but also is unusual and indispensable for the group of teachers and students of Hunan University alternative commemorative significance.The existing literature analysis shows that the research on Liu Shiying is mainly in the field of architecture,supplemented by personal life,and less in the field of education and planning.In the study of personal life,there is a phenomenon of information fault;in the field of architecture,the lack of research on the evolution of design ideas;in the field of education,the lack of their educational career orientation combing and summary of educational ideas;in the field of planning,the lack of deep excavation of planning ideas behind the measures.In view of the vacancy of the existing research content,the author puts the main research scope of this paper in two aspects:"educational thought" and "planning thought".In this paper,based on the exclusive content of Liu Shiying’s self-statement,the author combs,supplements and checks the life of the characters as the information basis of the full text research;then,referring to the literature research in the field of architecture,it divides the career stages of architecture career and summarizes and extracts the evolution process of design ideas;then,it inquires the historical materials of local records and subdivides the learning and teaching process of Liu Shiying;Then,combined with the Memoirs of children and students,the paper summarizes the characteristics of Liu Shiying’s educational thought;according to the planning content of the semi annual bulletin of Suzhou Municipal preparatory office·public works planning and Implementation(the 17th year of the Republic of China),it interprets and analyzes the characteristics of Liu Shiying’s planning thought.Finally,it summarizes the comprehensive characteristics of Liu Shiying’s educational thought and planning thought by coordinating the above research contents.This paper adopts the methods of literature research,field investigation and induction and comparison,and reviews Liu Shiying’s experience of architecture,education and planning from the perspective of the combination of character history,architectural history,educational history and planning history.
