Space Changes Of Taiyuan Urban Worker Welfare Area

Large-scale industrialization provided the main impetus for the rapid growth of China’s national strength in the early years of the People’s Republic of China.Especially in some cities focusing on industrial development,during this period not only formed a special urban appearance mainly composed of factories and their supporting facilities,but also shaped the unique living form and living space of urban residents--workers’ welfare living area.The concept of "welfare living area" as a social system is more closely related to the essence than as a regional concept.In the past,the vast majority of citizens,including their daily life,spiritual life and political life,were stipulated in the workers’ welfare areas,which are distributed in large and small cities.This system has long been internalized as an inseparable identity of its residents.For a variety of reasons,the once-flourishing workers’ welfare district finally lost its luster,became an ordinary urban community,and even,inevitably,went into decline.This paper makes a comprehensive and detailed study on the development and changes of the living area of a typical case of a fertilizer plant in Taiyuan city,and divides it into three stages according to the time clue:the stage of production and living with the ideology of collectivism;The stage that the institutional change represented by the enterprise reform and housing reform has an impact on the living area;As well as the stage of being the development object in the urban renewal and being directly impacted.This paper discusses the compound influence of the political and economic conditions,policies and systems,spatial governance,ideology,and material environment in these three stages,and investigates the formation and development of social space in each stage,as well as the logical clues of the spatial trend between stages,so as to provide clear materials and references for the modem transformation.Since entering the market economy,a series of changes have taken place in the living area of chemical fertilizer plant.To the current stage of urban development,this change has come to a climax.This paper holds that the living area of fertilizer plant has completed the transformation of spatial production mode in the current transformation process.In essence,it is the change of distribution mode caused by the change of investment direction of social resources,that is,the change of capital production mode.Therefore,in the future,the solution to the problem of urban residence should firstly respect the current social law and capital logic,and avoid the negative consequences caused by the simplified urban renewal.At the same time,the balance between economic interests and social interests,so that the city can develop organically for a long time.
