The port logistics environment is changing rapidly. Huge containerships, mega carriers and global terminal operators have emerged and made port industry more competitive. As a result, the competition among ports is becoming fierce. In Northeast Asia, the leading region in terms of container cargo throughput, the situation is even worse. All of ports are racing to attract shipping alliances with huge vessels by reducing price, constructing deep berths and developing hinterland transportation. To obtain and sustain their relative power within the region, the ports have opted for a competitive strategy, which result in a win-lose situation. However, a win-win game can be achieved by the concept of co-opetition: a mixed term of competition and cooperation. This study is worth doing since the co-opetition strategy is expected to bring harmonious mood to the port industry and prosperity to the whole region.
