Only by understanding the past can we better control the future. On the issue of wilderness, there are many authors at home and abroad to investigate and demonstrate, but most of the centers focus on the concept and value of wilderness, and the research on Roderick Fraser Nash’s works is relatively few.Nash’s work examines the shift in American attitudes towards wilderness, from hostility to acknowledging the need to create and protect wilderness.Although in Wildneess And American Mind,Nash writes only from the perspective of highly educated men and general disregard of religion,he still illustrates the importance of wilderness to human survival.Although Nash has never come up with a clear answer to the true meaning of wilderness,we cannot ignore the importance of natural wilderness in our lives and those of our predecessors. The change in the attitude of the people who landed in the New World towards the wilderness, from the most primitive fear to the conquest in the course of development to cooperation in the later stage,at the same time,it shows that Americans have a deeper and deeper understanding of the wilderness. And it compares the understanding and attitude of the West and the East towards the wilderness, which leads us to think deeply about the wilderness from the perspective of the history of ecological thought.Famous ecological thinkers, such as Thoreau,Lior and Leopold, hold an attitude of appreciation and protection of wilderness, and make a deep affirmation of wilderness from the level of ecological philosophy.Lior even put forward the concept of "national park" to protect the wilderness. The relationship between wilderness and civilization is simple and complex, which simply means hostility, but in terms of complexity, can the basic node of their harmonious coexistence be found in hostility? The answer is yes.The basis of the harmonious coexistence of the two lies in the change and perfection of human interests and ideas, and to balance the relationship between wilderness and civilization in comparison. The development of the historical concept of wilderness in this book gives us a deeper understanding of wilderness and plays a useful role in promoting the thought of global re-wilderness.The orderly connection between wilderness protection and traditional culture inspires us to explore the cultural genes of wilderness protection from the traditional excellent culture,to seek the ecological wisdom of the survival and development of the sages, and to improve the ecological measures of wilderness protection in an orderly manner. It can effectively improve the ecological quality of modern development.
