Study On Application Of Elements Of Zhuxian Town Woodcut New Year Paintings In Design Of Footwear

The long history and coherence in development of footwear in China can be traced back to the Paleolithic Age,when people used animal skins to protect their feet.Later,with the continuous development of civilization,the styles,materials and techniques of footwear are making unceasing progress.However,after the Industrial Revolution,due to the late start and the insufficient experience,the modern industrialized shoemaking in our country presents a typical characteristics of focusing more on production than design,leading to a situation of less prominent feature and awkward brand positioning.With the continuous development of networking and internationalization,Chinese brands are also integrating into the international trend.For example,Li-Ning's fine performance at New York Fashion Week in 2018 made the fashion designs with Chinese elements recapture global attention,triggered the rise of the power of present era,injected great inspiration to Chinese local designers,and brought new opportunities to Chinese traditional culture which features rich design elements.Starting with the everyday Chinese traditional culture,the author takes Zhuxian Town Woodcut New Year Painting as the research object.As the earliest version of New Year paintings,Zhuxian Town Woodcut New Year Painting has a long history,carries a large amount of cultural information,is expressed in different design patterns,presents people's records of real life,and stands for the laboring people's good wishes for a peaceful and happy life.Rough lines,gorgeous colors,full composition and exaggerated patterns make such traditional culture stand out among a large variety of styles.However,through field visits,the author finds that even this excellent folk traditional culture has encountered difficulties in further development.Besides its strong local characteristics and the traditional idea that the handicraft skills are only passed to male descents of families,the reason for the dilemma is the major impact of large quantities of machine printed products on the handmade ones.This paper focuses on the exploration and innovation of design practice.First of all,the origin and development of Zhuxian Town Woodcut New Year Painting are briefly summarized and described.After that,combined with the specific works of New Year paintings,the artistic styles and design characteristics of Zhuxian Town Woodcut New Year Painting concerning outlines,colors,shapes and compositions are concluded.Then,through the design techniques of extraction and transformation and based on the lifestyle of modern people,the artistic elements of Zhuxian Town Woodcut New Year Painting and modern designs of footwear are organically integrated in a new perspective,making it satisfy the aesthetic needs of the youngsters while retaining the original features.The practice includes application of pattern and style designs and production to footwear and its derivatives.It is hoped that this study can enrich the experience of applying traditional cultural elements to innovative designs of footwear,and play a positive role in the development of Zhuxian Town Woodcut New Year Painting in the contemporary era to a certain extent.
