| The lichenized genus Mazosia A.Massal.,belonging to the family Roccellaceae,Arthoniales,Arthoniomycetes,Ascomycota,Fungi,which are mainly found in tropical habitats,except one species in temperate rainforests of Tasmania in Australia.Most species are known only from living leaves,but a few occur on smooth bark.More than 40 species have been reported worldwide.Thallus of Mazosia are crustose,continuous or dispersed,ecorticate;asci clavate to oblong,8 ascospores;ascospores fusiform,transversely septate,slightly thick-walled,colorless;Conidiomata pycnidia,immersed-erumpent,rounded to conical;Conidia of two types sometimes present(often produced in same pycnidium): macroconidia oblong-bacillar,non-septate,colorless;microconidia fusiform-ellipsoid,non-septate,colorless;Chemistry:psoromic acid and one unidentified substances located in region 5-6 of system C.Foliicolous species have radiating cells of photobiont Phycopeltis,while all corticolous species have Trentepohlia s.lat.as photobiont.Materials were collected mainly from Guangdong,Guangxi,Fujian,Yunnan and Hainan Provinces,which are deposited in the Fungarium-Lichenum of the Institute of Microbiology,Chinese Academy of Sciences(HMAS–L),and Fungarium of College of Life Science,Liaocheng University,China(LCUF).Combining morphological and molecular analysis,22 species of Mazosia are reported,including 18 species new to science,viz.: Mazosia centrica,M.dimorphoverrucosa,M.gelatinospora,M.hainanensis,M.intermedia,M.papillosa,M.pruinata,M.pseudoaptrootii,M.pseudocorticola,M.pseudomelanophthalma,M.pseudopaupercula,M.pseudopruina,M.pseudopilosa,M.pseudotenuissima,M.sinensis,M.straminea,M.verrucose,and M.weii.Each species was described and discussed in detail,photographs of morphological and anatomical features are also provided.This study is helpful to explore species richness of Mazosia in China by combining the phenotype and genotype.The molecular data of this genus were supplemented to accumulate relevant data for further study and provided basic information for the compilation and research of the Flora Lichenum Sinicorum.In addition,most of Mazosia are follicolous species,which is a good research object to study the interaction between them and the leaves,photosynthetic physiological adaptation,and their ecological functions in forest ecosystems,this provides a technical reference for the study of other foliicolous groups. |
