Endowment Of Tourism Resources,Tourism Development And Economic Growth ——An Empirical Research Based On Western China

With the unprecedented prosperity and rapid expansion of the tourism industry,various negative effects caused by the excessive development of tourism destinations have also emerged.At the same time,the phenomenon of dislocation between tourism development and economic growth has occurred in various places.The regions with abundant tourism resources performed particularly so.There are many types of tourism resources in China,which have been regarded as a guarantee factor for tourism development before,but in many areas with relatively abundant endowments of tourism resources,the economic impact of the tourism industry is limited,indicating that tourism resources may play a key role in the impact of the tourism industry.Moreover,according to previous studies,due to the lack of investment and manpower in the western region of China,the high contribution rate of tourism resources to regional tourism economic growth has led to the formation of a high degree of tourism resource dependence,so the empirical test of the resource curse effect is not only typical,but also necessary.Therefore,this article first focuses on the analysis object in the western region of China.On the basis of clarifying the research background and significance,the route and methodologies,the contents and framework(Chapter 1),it systematically combs the research of the cursive existence and transmission mechanism of tourism resources at home and abroad,followed by a brief introduction to related theories,and followed by a brief introduction to related theories,and defining the core concepts to build the theoretical framework of this article(Chapter 2);And then through research design,this part explains the selection of variables and indicators,model setting and description,data source and processing as necessary(Chapter 3),and the excellent tourist cities in the west are selected as the analysis object,the panel data of 2000-2017 are used to empirically test the existence of tourism resources curse and its threshold effect,then conduct and systematic analyze its transmission mechanism,and proposes corresponding inspiration suggestions(Chapter 4);Finally,the main research conclusions of this article are summarized,and the possible innovations,deficiencies and prospects of the research are pointed out(Chapter 5).The research conclusions of this paper mainly include:(1)Theoretically,tourism resources have resource characteristics that cause a "curse" effect in terms of rent distribution,resource dependence,and factor demand,etc.,however,the tourism industry is also fundamentally different from the centralized resource industry in terms of renewables,price-setting power,and industry-related driving effects;At the same time,the mechanism of the impact of tourism resource abundance and dependence on economic growth is diverse and complex.Therefore,whether the research conclusion of the traditional natural resource industry is equally established in the tourism industry cannot be intuitively judged theoretically.(2)Through correlation analysis,tourism expansion in the western region appears as a "curse" rather than a "gospel" for economic growth,indicating that the "resource curse" effect of the tourism industry really exists in the western region;In addition,the western region has abundant tourism resources,but on the contrary,the economic performance of the tourism industry is not as good as in cities with less abundant tourism resources,which indicates that abundant tourism resources are an obstacle to the promotion of the contribution of the tourism economy,that is,the "curse" phenomenon of tourism resources also exists.Combining the above two conclusions,this article concludes that the tourism resources curse effect does exist objectively in western China.(3)Through threshold model analysis,there is a significant non-monotonic single threshold effect based on tourism resource endowment in the relationship between tourism expansion and economic growth in the western region.However,as the abundance of regional tourism resources increases,the impact of tourism development on economic growth the promotion effect has weakened,and the tourism resources curse effect has gradually strengthened.In addition,the curse of tourism resources also has a single or double threshold effect based on physical capital investment,human capital level,technological innovation level,level of opening up and government scale threshold variables.(4)Through the identification of transmission channels,the transmission of tourism resources curse in the western region is mainly through the squeeze-out of manufacturing and fixed asset investment.The former transmission mechanism is the expansion of tourism through resource transfer effects and income effects to squeeze out manufacturing inputs,and multiple locks solidify the regional industrial structure;the latter transmission mechanism is that the abundance of tourism resources makes local residents have a sense of security in income stability,and tends to reduce investment in savings and physical capital,leading to a reduction in physical capital investment.(5)Regions with abundant tourism resources should prevent and regulate the curse effect of tourism resources by optimizing the development and utilization of tourism resources,promoting the transformation and upgrading of the industrial structure,and strengthening the intervention and control of government forces,and continue to promote the advantages of tourism resources in rich destinations to economic advantages,ultimately achieve high-quality economic growth in the region.
