Study On The In Situ Conservation Of State Key-Protected Wild Plants Protected By The National Nature Reserves

We evaluated the effectiveness of the protection on state key-protected wild plants by collecting and analyzing the current distribution of targeted species and national nature reserves. The results indicated that:1. Till Jan 2008, 237 state key-protected wild plants have been protected in the national nature reserves, accounting for 80.07% of the total amount. Among them, 56 species listed in Level I have been protected, accounting for 76.71%.2. The state key-protected wild plants conserved by national nature reserves are better protected in Ningxia, Jilin, Gansu, Chongqing, Henan, Shanxi, Heilongjiang, Hubei, Anhui and Hunan provinces than other provinces. The state key-protected wild plants distributed in Ningxia are all protected by national nature reserves. And only plants listed in Level I are protected by national nature reserves in Jilin, Chongqing, Henan, Helongjiang, HuBei, Hainan, Shanxi, Liaoning.3. There are 59 state key-protected wild plants unprotected by the current natianl natural reserves nad 17 of them were listed in Level I. The 17 Level I protected plants are mainly distributed in Sichuan, Taiwan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Guangxi, Xizang, Guangdong, Hunan and Zhejiang provinces. The remaining 42 plants are distributed in 23 provinces and most of them are distributed in Yunnan, Guangdong, Taiwan and Guangxi provinces.According to the results, the hot spots of the national nature reserves should be established. State key-protected wild plants (except plants confined to Taiwan) would be all protected if increasing the number of national nature reserves or enlarging their areas.
