| The role of metrics during prototype manufacturing has not been fully developed. This project presents basic concepts of metrics and a model for metric selection. Attributes of good metrics are fully explored and used to rate engineering and manufacturing metrics for their applicability in the pre-production environment. Modifications to several engineering metrics are proposed and then rated for use. A breakdown of the concurrent engineering process introduces the importance of communication during the design cycle, which includes the prototype manufacturing activities. The models and attribute ratings are valuable for use in a team environment to prioritize metrics and enhance the metrics selection. |
