Network-based Manufacturing which is a new mode of the enterprise production and management, is one of the inevitable development trends. The Network-based CAD/CAM System, which is a basic manufacturing cell, is an important ingredient of it, and also is the basis of internal information integration and external information integration of the manufacturing enterprise. In the thesis, the Network-based CAD/CAM Prototype System was presented, and the system structure and working process of it was discussed in detail. With the help of the applications in it, the superiority and practicability of the prototype system was proved.First, the Network-based CAD/CAM Prototype System was constructed, and the solving scheme of it was presented, and the superiorities and characteristics of it was pointed out. Its network environments> supportable software and three function modules, such as CAD/CAM module, data management module, NC module were discussed.Secondly, the machining of the rotatory part was taken as an example. The CAD/CAM process of the handle part was implemented, including constructing 3D entity modeler, creating tool path, computer simulating, postprocessing cutter location files into tape files for a specific machine tool, transferring machining information of the handle part by the Network-based CAD/CAM Prototype System, NC machining of the handle part at last.Thirdly, the Reverse Engineering(RE) technology was expounded and an application of the part RE in the Network-based CAD/CAM Prototype System was had. It worked by measuring the sample with Virtual Axes M&M Center, reversing the data measured into a data model and making a detailed modification and design before the development of new products.Finally, Agile Virtual Enterprise(AVE) was constructed to complete the NC machining of the mouse in Beijing machine tool research institute. To Construct AVE achieved the share and complementarity of technology and resource, and quickened the speed of the market need to products, and decreased the period of R&D of products, and improved the competition of market.The scheme of constructing the Network-based CAD/CAM Prototype System that the thesis presented had a reference value and applicable value to the middle and small manufacturers of China.
