This thesis deals with the development and implementation of a control system using the QNX real-time operating system running in a PC-based network-wide system. This control system replaces the existing controller of MARTS, a Systems Control Group facility that is used as a test bed for evaluating theoretical control algorithms, model identification and steady state optimization in the study of large scale industrial process control. The application software developed is based on the client/server software structure, and allows the re-use of its major components in many highly specific process control applications. Experimental results on the implementation of this control system controlling the MARTS are presented. |
