Abstract/Summary:
The functional requirements of a wireless power meter data acquisition system are discussed. A system engineering approach to perform link budget analysis is defined. An equation is developed to calculate the composite received energy-per-bit to noise power density ratio for a specified bit error performance. The analysis includes compensation for M simultaneously (orthogonal) received transmitters and multiple cell interference.; The plane earth path loss equation is used to derive a cumulative probability density function for predicting path loss attenuation. Site surveys were conducted to validate the operating environment and path loss attenuation factors.; Two different system designs are developed for co-cell reuse factor, K = 1 and K = 7. It is found that a system design, to read the power meters throughout the City of Long Beach, is feasible utilizing 16 CDMA cells of radius 2.5 km (1.6 miles).
