Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the present Enterprise Information Portals (EIP) and project management software. This thesis focuses on integrating the project management tool on the Enterprise Portal.; In this thesis the Enterprise Project Portal (EPP) is a web application that provides business users a single point access to project information. The EPP extends the model of EIP to include the decision-making tools for project management. The EPP promotes concept of collaboration within the organization relating to project management. The concept of collaboration causes a shift from traditional top down hierarchies towards collaborative team structures. The EPP provides a task guide for users to plan their activities. It provides access to project data, which is stored in wide variety of data formats. It monitors overall project progress of all the projects in hand. The EPP generates the status reports and warning messages and uses push strategy to update the users with the information as soon as the user logs into the system. Hence the user does not have to explicitly request project information. The EPP provides access to project data to all the users with internet connection and login permission, which reduces the constraints of geographical locations within the department. The EPP allows authenticated users to update the project hence the project manager does not have to send requests to team members and update the central database. The EPP supports collaboration and promotes more informed decision-making. The EPP provides data access, task planning and task monitoring for a collaborative scenario. The EPP provides a multiagent server and multiagent client model which helps in server and client functionality. The EPP can be applied to small organizations along with large manufacturing industries.; In summary this thesis describes a new EPP, which provides data access, task planning and task monitoring for a collaborative scenario.
