This thesis presents yet another way advances in technology can be used to facilitate changes in the way things are done. More specifically, it looks at improving the storage and retrieval of patients' information in a medical environment. The proposal is to replace the paper medical charts used today with a system that would store patients' records and other pertinent information electronically and make them accessible via a wireless device such as a cell phone or Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).; The realization of this system is done via a multi-tier client-server setup. The user accesses the system from his or her wireless device, which communicates with the database used to store the information. This communication takes place through a middle tier server that is capable of interacting with the database as well as serving WML content to the client. |
