Abstract/Summary:
The rapid development of Information Technology Industry during the last century and its future in 21st century partly depends on a safe, reliable and economical supply of electric power. The increased availability in use of digital computers and other hi-tech devices for system modeling have influenced the power system researcher to develop better tools to study, and analyze electrical power systems for both reliable and economic operation.;The remote use of RTDS design software is achieved by the development of platform independent software, Power System Design Software (PSDS). The PSDS Software runs on a PC platform and has a CD Installer for the Software. The PSDS is developed using the programming language Java. The complete PSDS system design is based upon the draft module of PSCAD RTDS software. The Software has various features such as design, save and print a power system model. A PSDS user can design the Power System model and store it in a file, later he can send that file via Internet as a design to the operator of RTDS for the purpose of simulation and receive the simulation results back via Internet.;This project is sponsored by US National Science Foundation (NSF) and collaborated in conjunction with Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).;Internet technologies have provided a way to restructure Power Engineering Education for the 21st Century. The Development of Power System Design Software as a Step towards remote use of a Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) is a research direction to achieve this goal. RTDS is a state-of-the-art real time simulator for power system analysis. To make this expensive system available to other U.S. universities, a methodology is needed which will allow access from a remote location.
