Abstract/Summary:
In this work we have developed the continuously tunable coherent source of radiation in mid-infrared spectral region (4.5--8 mum) using the Stimulated Raman Scattering effect in para-hydrogen crystal.; Laser source in the range of 4.5--10 mum is highly desirable for molecular spectroscopy owing to the fact that molecules of interest have their characteristic vibrations in this range.; The importance of this work comes from the fact that many modern experimental methods, such as spectroscopy in molecular beam or cavity ringdown spectroscopy virtually rely on the use of lasers. In view of this it appears surprising that at present three are no handy laboratory laser sources for the mid infrared (5--10 mum).; The development of such a source will clearly stimulate progress in many areas of Physical Chemistry.
