Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this project was to write a grant to establish two support groups, one for parents of terminally ill children experiencing anticipatory grief and one for parents who are grieving the loss of a child. A literature review was completed to gain insight into the needs of this population. Parental grief and bereavement have been associated with increased risk for emotional, psychological, and physical problems; therefore, a need exists to provide appropriate bereavement services.;The proposed location for this project is Miller Children's Hospital in Long Beach, California. A Little HOPE, Inc. was selected as a potential funder, since their mission and goals align with those of the host agency and proposed program. The overall goal of the support groups is to provide a supportive and therapeutic environment, thus enhancing parents' emotional well-being, coping skills, and support systems. If funded, these support groups would promote a healthier recovery.
