Pierre-Antoine Bellangé's custom commissioned seating furniture for the White House in 1817 stands as a testament to the reigning reverence Americans have for history with this particular suite's lifespan of entering the White House in 1817, being sold in 1860 and collected and cherished in private hands, until the majority of the remaining pieces, nearly 150 years later in 1961, returned to grace the very room for which they were intended.
